I have to give this mock draft by Jason Marcum (Bleacher Report) a high grade. It couldn't have flunked, since his top pick was Carson Wentz. This guy at least knows which is the most important position in football. I just hope that if the Rams take Wentz, he'd have put Goff there.
Based on his Big Board, I think he would have, since he ranked Goff third. Obviously, Jason has the brains to put his thumb on the scale for quarterbacks.
Atop the second round, he takes center Ryan Kelly. He probably doesn't foresee a Thomas trade as I do, or consider a trade-down here as I do, but Kelly is a real stud.
He's projected to go in the first round (for good reasons), but could easily slide this far.
While I really like this player, I'd personally consider need a little more and target Indiana tackle Spriggs or Braxton Miller here instead.
In the third, it's 5'11" 207lb. WR Pharoah Cooper. I don't have a huge problem with this because Cooper is a home run hitter with the tools to play outside, as well as in the slot. In the third round, this is a best available guy and a real weapon.
He drafts safety Darien Thompson atop the fourth round. That's okay too, because Thompson is tall, hits hard, and gets interceptions. He can play free or strong. Although I don't see safety as a need, once again this is a good player if he drops this far.
He drafts a running back named Howard low in the fourth round. He is a 230 lb. bruiser with some elusiveness to him. He can catch passes, needs work on blocking, and might slide this low because he missed four games with different injuries.
While running back is absolutely not a need for this team, this is another really good player for the stable; a starting caliber talent low in the fourth round ok check.
Atop the fifth, it's Shilique Calhoun, a DE who would play OLB here. I love this passrusher, but he's projected to go in the second round.
Jason is a real optimistic guy with several of these picks, but this one is out of hand. If Calhoun makes it this far, outstanding. I just doubt it.
Cornerback Jones low in the fifth. Project with outstanding speed. Why not?
Also in the fifth, tight end Jerrell Adams. As you know, I'm a big Adams fan, but would take him low in the fourth, at least. I doubt that he'll even make it that far.
Then a project corner who with a torn acl who will require a red shirt year that's fine in the sixth. Then another microscopic receiver in the seventh.
We need more of those like we need a hole in the head, but it's the seventh round so ok.
I wanted to give Jason a B (extra credit for the quarterback), but have to give him a C for cheating.
Jason, you took a bunch of guys two to four rounds below they were projected. Bad Jason!
