Guys the Browns Might Draft

First, I wrote an entry yesterday that I won't publish til draft day.  I know that scumbags steal my thoughts and get paid to pretend they're me, and I'm afraid they'll blab and screw up what Sashi and Hue are trying to pull (if I'm right).

Just letting you know it's already in the can, with a title which has a double meaning for Sashi Brown.

My inner fan is burning with rage over the rumors I'm hearing about Sashi Brown doing everything he can to make sure the Browns never get a franchise quarterback.

But my inner analyst insists on making predictions.  I suppose it's possible that Hue Jackson thinks he's found the next Russell Wilson and has huge brass balls.  Or he actually does believe that RG3 will a: kick ass again and b: stay healthy.

If that's his call, I won't question it.  And I'm pretty sure that Sashi Brown can't override him on this.  As I've said before, that's why he answers to the owner, and not to Brown.

Putting that aside for now, here's what I think will happen if this...insane...Trade-down happens:

I think it will be the 49ers at 7 or the Eagles at 8.

An Eagles beat guy said that the Eagles don't have a second round pick, but that's okay with Sashi, who just wants lots of picks...because, I guess, he really does have some sort of OCD or other mental illness wtf?

Ok so he not only wants to trade away Wentz or Goff, but he doesn't mind trading him for a bunch of garbage okay fine.  Seriously I doubt that part of it since...He just can't be that insane, and Haslam had better "meddle" if he is.

I'm having a hard time staying on track here:

Never mind who they pick first at seven or eight.  Ill just say it's the Niners, just because they have a second round pick and I don't think DePodesta will let Sashi collect a bunch of garbage either.

So they get another high second rounder, and a first round pick in 2017.  Ok and a fifth rounder to make Sashi Sanford happy.

Next up is Joe Thomas to Seattle for number 26 and a low middle third round pick.

Now after wasting the seventh overall pick on anybody but Goff or Wentz they've got 26th overall, 32nd overall, 37th, 65th, 90th, and 99th left.  That's six in the top 100 left.

It's not enough.  They can auction number thirty two, moving down with Dallas maybe to 34 for their 2017 second round pick (stay with me here now they got an extra first round and extra third round 2017 pick in the bank).

Ok so what do they do with 26 34 37 65 90 99?

For the three slots between 26 and 37 there are several really good players, including some who could easily slide from higher projections.

These include:

ILB Reggie RaglandEli AppleJosh Doctson
Jason Spriggs, Noah SpenceChris Jonesand Derrick Henry.  (And of course Braxton Miller).

There probably isn't a choice about Spriggs or another left tackle with Joe gone.  You simply have to have a left tackle.

Spriggs is a great run blocker and dancer, but is vulnerable to the bull rush.  He needs work.  It would be rough for him.

A guy I respect said that his best position could be left guard, where he could be the next Alan Fanika.

Spence probably won't fall this far, but possibly.  Ragland is another somewhat optimistic listing.

Well, most of them are, except for Henry and Miller.

Why Henry?

Well, if you read this you know that the Browns need for a running back is a hallucination, but talent sometimes trumps need.

It's obvious that the 2016 Browns offense will be in very deep kaka if it can't run the ball.  It probably will be anyway, but controlling the clock can mitigate the damage.

I at first considered the Heisman trophy winner a one trick pony who didn't project well to the NFL, but several guys on NFL Radio have convinced me otherwise.

Henry was actually tested at tight end.  He ran tight end routes and caught passes.  Everybody was VERY impressed.  They said he looked like he'd done it all his life.  Natural hands.  Nice patterns.

He was expected to clock 4.6 and he ran 4.5.  He jumped out of the gym, showing superior fast-twitch explosiveness.

More recently, he was compared to Jerome Bettis (the Bus).  Bettis was shockingly elusive for a guy his size.  Henry isn't as nifty as the Bus was, but is faster and more solidly built (all muscle.  Freak).

My experts laugh at the "upright runner" knocks.  He's 6'3".  He leans into contact when he needs to.  In general, most "upright runner" critiques are stupid.

For the Browns, Henry could be like the Bus+Beastmode.  Marshawn Lynch had a lot to do with keeping Russell Wilson in one piece while he learned.

His addition would make this backfield extremely deep and formidable.  Henry caught few passes in college, but has proven that he can not only catch passes, but can line up in the slot and run patterns.

His height is a huge advantage as a receiver.  Most tight ends only have a couple inches on him, and I don't believe any are as fast.

Henry is top heavy right now, built like Hercules.  He can still add muscle to his lower body in the weight room to lower his center if gravity and get even bigger.

While he's not as elusive as the Bus, he is still very agile for his size.

His ability to pass protect isn't to be overlooked here, either.

I really like Isaiah Crowell, and wouldn't bench him.  I'd use both big backs with Duke Johnson.

Hue Jackson knows what to do with these guys.  In Cincinnati, he sort of alternated running backs.  He'd lean most heavily on whichever one matched up best against the opposing defense, but would always sprinkle the other guy in.

He has run two-back sets, and could do that here.  I can just imagine Henry and Duke in a huddle and both going to the slot with RG3 in a shotgun.  Go ahead, blitze! I dare ya!

I just had to throw Henry in here.  He's just a freak.  He can beat a defense down.  He hits a hole fast, and if a hole isn't there, sometimes he makes one.  The only way to tackle him is to take out his legs.  He can score from anywhere, because once he's past the big people, the little people are speed bumps (and he can outrun a lot of them.  His 40 time doesn't tell the whole story.  He's a long strider like Gordon).

It's clear the Browns need a receiver or two more than a running back, but Henry might help even more.

He will certainly scare the hell out of defenses, wherever he plays.  The Browns need guys like that.

How 'bout Spriggs, Miller, and Henry?
