Listening to Fantasy Radio today, they were running an "auction" draft. McCaffery went for around 72.00 and Comrade Mayfield went for 2.00.
I get part of it: Quarterbacks in general are cheaper these days, as there are so many good ones (the opposite of how it was 5 years ago).
The run-oriented AFC North suddenly includes 2 first overall Quarterbacks, MVP Lamar Jackson, and Roethsenberger how 'bout that?
You have to look long and hard to find a team without a Quarterback who can rack up points coming from behind. Maybe New England (wow I said that!).
Hell they're knocking Gardener Minshu, but have you seen his stats!?! Hell and Teddy Bridgewater is "meh" these days!
Then there's the run-heavy offense the Browns intend to run with TWO versatile workhorse stud running backs and a couple Tight Ends who can actually block pretty good. And a fullback, ok?
The 2.00 thing, though...that's the last kid picked for a team, right? The fat kid with the taped up glasses and knock knees? And everybody groans on the Captain's team who is forced to pick him over empty air?
I wonder how much Kirk Cousins went for in this auction. I'm sure he was at least picked when there were 6 or 7 other kids still unpicked. 10 bucks? 12 maybe?
Under Kevin Stefanski in 2019, sans Adam Thielen for over half the season, Kirk Cousins completed 69.1% of his passes for 3600 yards and 26 TDs...
...I see the Fantasy guys' problem: While Cousins' passer rating and other stats were awesome, he generated "meh" fantasy points.
These Fantasy guys universally laugh at the notion that Comrade Mayfield won't resume kicking ass under Comrade Stefanski (the league has "figured" Mayfield "out" chuh).
That's why I personally posted several months ago that Comrade Mayfield would not be my QB1 if I could afford to play season-long Fantasy Football.
Mayfield will probably be a bit more productive fantasy-wise than "meh" Cousins was in 2019. Njoku is scary, OBJ is 100%, Hunt is the slot guy, the Ravens, Steelers, and even Bengals (by game 2) could get ahead and force comebacks (along with a few other opponents).
The 2019 Vikings had a terrific veteran defense, and rarely played from behind in a weaker Division, with a weaker schedule.
Comrade Mayfield really ought to top 4,000 yards, 30 TDs, and (better sit down for this. Are you seated? Ok here goes): 200 yards and 3 more TDs on the ground.
...still, the best fantasy QBs are the ones you expect to be coming from behind a lot I get it. Just sayin...Comrade Mayfield would be a fine QB2; he ought to rank in the top half in all formats (if you expect less than a 3:1 TD/INT ratio you need a brain transplant ok?)
I'll stick with Fantasy here:
Let's see Browns D underrated...the Fantasy experts don't seem to even care about defense (or special teams).
Maybe the season-long formats minimize defense more than the weeklies I can afford or have time for, but...W T F!?!
I've seen defenses rack up serious points on Draftkings; like over TWENTY. I can't believe these guys don't want to "bother with" Defense or Special Teams.
The Browns 2019 defense unmistakably sucked, but they've significantly upgraded at Safety, less significantly at CB (but better).
Clayborn was a depth-upgrade at EDGE, Olivier Vernon's renegotiation could be critical if he manages not to get injured for once, Jacob Phillips...
See previous posts. The "analysis" you've been reading in re the Browns' 2020 Defense is ignorant (with one notable exception blush-blush).
...screw this I can't get past Drone Mayfield kneeling here:
A whole BUNCH of black ("African-American" my ass quit bending over) people are trying to tell you, Baker, that they resent Colon Kaperdick, and need YOU taking a knee like they need a hole in the head.
Systemic racism IS real (not that you should kneel for the National Anthem over it you brainwashed guilty white moron):
The suppression/elimination of Charter Schools (and every other kind of school choice) is systemic racism, you idiot.
The very existance of the Department of Education is racist (not to mention blatently unconstitutional/illegal, and NO the men in black don't know the Constitution any better than the rest of us literate people do (read "Men in Black" by Marc Levin--or the US Constitution. There's a REASON they never had you read it in school.)
I was a Corrections Officer in Cleveland Ohio and many of my co-workers and MOST of my bosses up to/including the Mayor were black.
It's that way in most cities, you idiot! Keep spewing the disproportianate number of incarcerees being black all you want: a disproportianate number of COPS are black too!!!
And they COME from these neighborhoods you asshole! They want to SERVE AND PROTECT those people who are being destroyed and murdered by Black Lives Matter while Cops are handcuffed...and you, you mindless drone, plan to kneel for the National Anthem?
Who DF says the George Floyd thing was even about race when 2 of the other cops who stood and watched weren't even white?
You know that that Prosecutor charged that asshole cop with 2nd degree murder knowing the medical examiner determined that the cause of death was the drugs in Floyd's system?
That Cop is an asshole, but didn't KILL Floyd, and that asshole Prosecutor knows that any jury will have to find him not guilty!
Hell, he probably got as many white jurors as he could approved!
Negligent homicide: Slam-dunk. 2nd degree murder? Aquittal and more RIOTS why can't you people see this?
I can't realisticly expect Baker Mayfield to see this, but the fact that the whole "white cops mass-murdering bros" thing as a deliberately manufactured fiction is obvious to any objective person who does perhaps 3 hours of research away from CNN, CNBC, NBC, ABC, most other outlets, and (recently) Foxnews too (dammit)...
That's not even why I hate Comrade Mayfield over his commitment to kneel for the flag/anthem:
It's because he says "no it's not about the flag! I respect the sacrifices blah blah I love this country blah blah my teammates blah blah" but he's just a younger Joe Biden.
Considering how Drucilla Brees rolled over, apologizing profusely for his offensive and hurtful language after saying "my family fought and died for this flag, and I won't kneel", I must be missing something.
All I can tell you is this: If I was an NFL Quarterback, I would refuse to pay "protection money", or even to shut up.
I would NOT be a drone or a coward. I would DARE my blockers to let me get sacked, receivers to drop passes, and talk to my team mates like I talk to you people in an effort to get their heads out of their brainwashed asses.
It's remotely possible that eventually Mister "Rebel without a Cause" Mayfield will find it politically expedient to NOT kneel...
...after several other NFL players do, and it's trending...
I might be unfair to Mayfield, but he's 24 years old, and fought hard to get where he is. Only in America could this happen. Anywhere else on this planet, Baker Mayfield would be just a guy.
...along with his black teammates...
Millions died to end slavery. More died in the struggle for civil rights.
...and you intend to kneel in front of this flag?
Got bless Mike Ditka: "Go somewhere else".
