Correcting Bad Browns Coverage and Analysis and Browns Stuff and stuff

1: If Joe Schobert leaves in free agency, the "hole" at MLB will not be huge, massive, or gaping.  The need will not be desperate or urgent.

Takitaki is a different type of MLB, but who tf is telling you people he sucks?  Mack Wilson is good in coverage, by the way--who is telling you the MIKE has to be the coverage guy?

2: The OBJ trade rumors won't go away because they make too much sense.

It's a perfect time for Mr "Moneyball" to cash out on that 15 mil/year mistake and draft 1-2 starting receivers in the middle or lower rounds (and/or re-sign Rashard Higgins).

3: Geoff Schwartze says that Baker Mayfield will bounce back this season because he has competent coaches.

He's about 33% right:  Mayfield will bounce back, but it will be because he's more experienced, will be protected more by both his offensive system and upgraded blockers, and will not be compelled to force the ball to Dorsey's darling (see "2").

4: Sage Rosenfels warns us that Stefanski's new offense will take time to develop (ps I've been unable to hear his explanation).

Naturally any new offense takes time to hit on all cylinders.  Sage is a Quarterback, and I have to assume that he's partly referring to the West Coast-like timing passing offense.

The receivers have to adjust their routes to the coverage they see; reading the broader scheme just like the Quarterback does.  If they screw up, it results in interceptions, and uninformed fans bashing the Quarterback.

It takes time for most receivers to get this down, and for some, it's not even possible.  Meanwhile, the Quarterback is asked to throw to a spot before they make their move...most Quarterbacks will hesitate until they have learned to trust the given receiver.

And, of course, the routes have to be very precise. If they break a yard or 2 deeper or shallower than they're supposed to, that could be another disaster (that the Quarterback gets blamed for ie "He can't hit the broad side of a barn!")

But Jarvis Landry will be fine, and (except when actually lined up in the slot or wide at the snap, the running backs (and QB) are improvising.

For the Offensive Line, Sage, there will be almost no learning curve, as the Zone blocking system is idiot-proof.

Sage would tell me that you have to mix in vertical routes (which take more time and require the linemen to pass-block conventionally), and I would axe him how that's hard to learn.  And he would bring up Don Coryall and say it's still timing and way harder to execute with the vertical routes, and I would point out Baker Mayfield's arm and historical accuracy, and that the reads are easier for the X receivers here--and that they can be decoys...and Sage would throw something else at me that I have no answer for because I was never a Pro Quarterback.

Clearly, there will be screw-ups early on, especially if Higgins isn't re-signed and OBJ is replaced by a rookie oh yeah:

5: What Kevin Stefanski did in Minnesota with the talent he had there doesn't carry much weight with the roster he inherits here:

His scariest weapons include Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb, so he will field 2 running backs a lot in 2020 (with Hunt in the Fullback role).

John Dorsey and Freddie (and their dawg-house) are gone, and David Njoku is still here.  (Just a note on Njoku here: He has become an adequate in-line blocker, despite the fact that he's not built for it.)

Anyway, Stefanski will use 2 RBS and (at least) 1 Tight End.

Are you still with me?  There's only room for 2 WRs here, and one of those is Jarvis Landry.

I can't fathom why everybody is expecting Stefanski to replace Kareem Hunt with a fullback, and Hunt never to line up in the slot or wide, or why none of the 5 TE's on the roster or available for re-signing are adequate for "da Ztavanzzkee Ovvenzz"!

The only real skill-need on the 2020 offense is...oh yeah...Rodney Ratleyfield!  They already GOT a deep threat!

Damion Ratley has all the physical tools (including hands) to excel in a timing offense.  Route discipline is a matter of just that: discipline.  The only question Damion needs to answer is whether or not he can read coverage well enough to sync with Mayfield.

It's great that in this draft class, Berry can bring in competition for him (and Higgins, if they re-sign him).

But I digress: The Offense just needs Tackles, and might already have a decent Right Guard on the roster...

Why are you people so eager to bury young players?  Like Ratley or Drew Forbes or Seone Takitaki?

In Cleveland, if you don't make a big splash as a rookie, the fans write you off.  You people embarrass me.

6: The Browns are not "full of" (huge, massive, gaping, urgent) holes.

They need the 2 Tackles on offense, and safeties, maybe a linebacker, and...

This gets deep: Vernon is a GMF, for one thing, so they need an EDGE guy (or 2), Randall is NOT neccessarily gone (and does NOT suck), Redwine can play both safety positions, the rotational run-stuffing DL's might already be on the roster...

If you think "we're close" is funny, you're an idiot (no offense)

YOU STAND CORRECTED.
