Bad Browns Analysis and the Silly Season on Steroids. Just Kill me.

Cardinals writer mocks the Cleveland Browns trading up with the Cards (at 8) to draft Becton.

This is a great example of projection.  To a Cardinals fan (and a very few Browns fans) this makes perfect sense.  I didn't read the whole article, but wouldn't be surprised if he has the Browns coughing up a third round pick to move up 2 slots.

Nothing against this writer.  Most of us think this way.  You have to be trained not to, and one of the first things the marxists did when they established the Department of Education was delete Critical Thinking (and the Constitution) from all curriculae.

This writer thinks he understands the Browns needs and Front Office, but his analysis of it was superficial.

With four consensus elite Left Tackles available, and up to 7 having first round grades, why would any team trade up for Becton?

The general public is more impressed by Becton's freakish measurables than the pro scouts are.

Joe Thomas never weighed much over 310 lbs.  Anthony Munoz was around 315.  Becton may indeed be "all that", but Wirfs and the other 2 guys are right there with him.

These aren't Quarterbacks.  You don't trade up from Munoz for Thomas, or vice-versa.

And this is DePoBerry!  They might trade up for Simmons, should he inexplicably slide past 5th or 6th overall, but (assuming Young is long gone) that's the only guy they'd move up for.

Speaking of Mister Everything (Simmons), CBS Sports 97th-ranked prospect is another hybrid named Kyle Dugger from Lenoir-Rhyme (I know I never heard of it either).

Kyle is listed as a safety, but played all over the place in college; nickel back, strong, free, corner, and linebacker.

Kyle's biggest problem is his low(est) level of competition (big fish, little pond).  But he kicked butt vs the big boys at the Senior Bowl.

Dugger is 6'1", 217 lbs.  He clocked a 4.49 40 with a 42" vertical leap (17 bench press reps, 134 broad jump--didn't do the other drills.  He has HUGE hands).

The guys at PFF think he belongs "near the ball", and that he could play linebacker in the 2020 NFL.

He takes on offensive linemen and wins.  He's got great instincts, and is very aggressive--but smart: He rarely "takes the cheese" (overpursues); he can slow down to take away the cutback, then explode into a loud hit.

In coverage, some scouts have knocked his hips and backpedal; in general, in his little pond Dugger has relied on his athleticism, and will need work on his technique in the NFL (another reason why he's not expected to go in the first round).

He's a terrific returner, with several touchdowns, and of course is a great asset on coverage units (He'll have Preifer's vote).

I've heard him interviewed on NFL Radio, and was impressed by his intelligence and demeanor: He wasn't reading a script.  He was himself. He's an adult.

Pat Kirwan was very impressed by "this kid", and expects him to go in the second or third round.  He can start immediately, but needs some polishing, but Kirwan, like a lot of other people, consider Dugger as possibly the most talented safety in this class.

I keep going back to the PFF guys opinions, and see Dugger as a Safetybacker.

Steve Wilks would have loved him, but Joe Woods would love him too.

It looks like Joe Schobert is a GMF (along with Kirksey, of course duh), and Dugger can cover RBs and TEs (and stop the run).

Who cares what they label him?  The Browns probably can't get Simmons, but Kyle Dugger would be an excellent consolation prize.

The Browns can at least sign a "band aid" Offensive Tackle in free agency, and draft one or more LEFT Tackles out of this class; Right Guard might already be on the roster.

EDGE is the real #2 need here (sigh: Olivier Vernon probably won't take a pay cut and is a probable GMF obviously sigh.  Bringing Ogbah and/or Nassib back would help a lot, but Myles Garrett needs a true book-end.)

DT depth, like Right Guard, may already be here---buried in premature graves by you people...clawing their way out...leave it to Browns fans to turn training camp into Night of the Living Dead year after year.

While DePoBerry probably can't find a bookend for Garrett in free agency, they should have both safety slots covered ahead of the draft.

...you people...you read all this and still think the Browns won't trade OBJ.  Wow!

Sigh...the Browns (after Offensive Tackles) will need a scary edge-rusher after free agency.

To make sure they get one of these (who is an actual DE) out of this draft, they need to get him in the first round.  With the draft pick some fool paid for OBJ!!!

-snap-snap- this draft class is even deeper in Wide Receivers than it is in Offensive Tackles, and Rodney Ratleyfield is still here.  Rashard Higgins is CHEAP.

-snap-snap- why don't you get this?

Trade OBJ, trade down from 10 (1 or more times), lock up a studly Left Tackle and a real DE edge-rusher in the first round, see?

Now, you can go "best available" sigh...

You don't grok that the real top roster needs have been addressed via free agency and the draft already.

Clowns are telling you that the Browns' roster sucks, and that they need everything, but they're fulla beans.

Listen carefully:

The Browns do NOT need running backs or fullbacks or tight ends or interior offensive linemen or (ahem) wide receivers even after OBJ is traded.  Offensively, they ONLY need offensive tackles.

Yeah yeah shaddap upgrades and depth are always nice---I want 11 All-Pros on offense too but you people need to grow up ok?

Sigh Baker Mayfield unleashed will make any group of receivers look great, provided...

YOU PEOPLE!  He was supposed to target OBJ more!?!

Ok I can't talk to you okbye
