Andrew Berry: Say NO to Injured Geezer Overpriced Offensive Tackles...what are you people thinking!?!

There are a number of Offensive Tackles who could be cheap bandaids for the Browns in 2020.  Of all these players, why does one writer want to go with the oldest and most often injured one in Jason Peters?

This is fairly common for a lot of writers.  Jason Peters was, for awhile, one of the best Left Tackles in the NFL, and some writers will want him (over younger, healthier, and better Tackles) because they recognize his name.

Chad Porto thinks it would be a good idea to bring back Colt McCoy and Carl Nassib, and I semi-concur.

I like Case Keenum a little better than Colt, but it's close.  The West Coast is Colt's ideal system, and he can run around, so he'd fit in just fine.

Nassib is a "hell yes!" Carl never became the edge-rusher Berry and co hoped for when they drafted him, but Chad points out that he's had 12 sacks as a rotational player over the last 2 years.

Frankly, I can't fathom why John Dorsey released Nassib: That is, I get that his ego compelled him to purge as many "Sashi Brown" "not real football players" as possible--but I still can't grok how anybody could "think" that way...well that can't be defined as "thinking"---but I digress:

Anyway, as Chad points out, Nassib can play multiple positions (and even drop into coverage occasionally; some teams tested him at OLB at his combine).

On passing downs, he can play the 3 tech and rush the passer, and he's become a proficient edge-setter/run defender (as well as a respectable passrusher) on the edge.

Carl Nassib would be a great "utility guy" to get other guys off the field, and keep them fresh and healthy.

Some jackass will say "Why wood Nazzibb come bagg here avder how they dreeded him oyee?", but obviously Nassib and his agent can tell the difference between Berry and Dorsey.  Given the fact that Olivier Vernon will be gone soon, and the Browns currently lack depth at every Dline position, anybody like Nassib would find the 2020 Browns attractive.

Another "not real football player" John Dorsey kicked to the curb was Emmanuel Ogbah, who had 5.5 sacks with the Chiefs in 2019...seriously, the more I think about the Dorsey purge and the Dorsey spending spree, the angrier I get.

Ogbah was good vs the run as a DE.  He was great on stunts, and decent outside.  Given more playing time, he would have had more sacks last year as well.

Ogbah isn't as versatile as Nassib, but could certainly play both edges, and (I believe) is better vs the run.

I can't hold DePoBerry up as an icon of Belichickitude either, of course, as they were there when Sashi Brown withdrew his offer to Mitchell Schwartze, and they failed to draft DeShaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, and were at least complicit in drafting DeShone Kizer in the second round.  (The Wentz trade I still defend.  Don't make me hurt you).

And by the way, you can check my posts:  I loved both Watson and Mahomes, and couldn't see what Jackson or whoever saw in Kizer aside from size, arm strength, and athleticism.  I mean, he just plain sucked in college!!!

Reminder:  Hue Jackson had the right to choose his Quarterback actually written into his contract.  Remember?  Of course not!

Would you people quit with this Trent Williams BS?  Or at least start talking about who will trade with the Browns for Olivier Vernon too?  (He is still under contract for 2020, after all).

I disagree with Frank Kilburn, but include this link because the vicious, ignorant comments he took in response pissed me off.

Frank was wrong, but he was thinking, and reached his theory via logic and reason.

Frank suggests that the Browns MIGHT be looking at a POSSIBLE rebuild 2 years from now.

He was right about the Brinks trucks for several players backing up simultaneously, but wrong about a bunch of stuff:

1: Paul DePodesta was all-in on Baker Mayfield, and Berry was part of that unanimous decision.  While it is conceivable that Mayfield could continue to suck and bust out, that is extremely unlikely, and unless that happens, the Browns will, of course, re-sign him...and will not be shopping for a new Quarterback in 2022.

2: Frank ass umes that OBJ will not be traded, and Vernon/(Kirksey etc) will not be released, and the Browns will not be loaded with cap money and draft picks in 2020 (let alone defer some of those extra picks into 2021 and beyond).

3: Frank seems to expect the Browns to crap out in 2020, and not to think much of Baker Mayfield.

...ok yeah, this was a really shallow, bad article, but Frank Kilburn is not a dumbass.  He will get better.  I can tell, because (believe it or not) I was once almost as dumb as him!

Frank just needs to do more homework and stuff, but he is rational and logical, and his dumbassitude is not ennate or permanent.

The most recent mock drafts generally have no more than 2 Offensive Tackles being drafted before the Browns' pick at 10 (no s--t).

The smarter ones have them landing Becton, but stipulate that a trade-down is more likely for this "analytics-driven" front office.

The premise that the OT draft class is "top heavy" is just plain stupid.  The Browns could trade into the low 20s and still land a good starting Left Tackle.

Remember, the 2020 Browns don't need another Joe Thomas.  Not in a run-oriented wide zone West Coast play-action scheme.

Even a lot of legitimate experts seem to be overawed by Becton's numbers, but are ignoring Stefanski's system, Hunt, Njoku, and Mayfield.

Andrew Berry knows that this offense can somehow scrape by with that bumb Josh Jones, even though he is vastly inferior to the future Hall of Famers ahead of him.  Chuh.

Seriously, I think that Paul DePodesta has been listening and learning since he first returned to the NFL, and now that he's reunited with a similarly more-evolved Andrew Berry, is primed to fleece dah foodball guyszz!

Look no further than John Dorsey!

1: He cut Nassib and Ogbah as soon as he got here, and they got gobbled up instantly by other teams who couldn't believe these guys were on the market.

2: He gave Geddleman maybe the best RG in the NFL, an emerging stud SS, and the 1st round draft pick that nailed down new franchise QB Josh Jones for him...

Dorsey also took over 30 million bucks off his freind's salary cap by taking OBJ and Vernon off his hands.

3: Dorsey also replaced that bumb Darrin Fells with HIS Tight end (smooth move, Ex-Lax).

4: Let's not forget what he paid for (ahem) Hubbard.

5: Dorsey promoted Freddie Kitchens over DePodesta favorite Kevin Stefanski (and Gregg Williams, for that matter) as Head Coach.

TRUST ME: DePodesta was raising hell (in his understated, intellectual manner, of course) over all this, and Jimmy Haslam remembered what he said:  This is why DePodesta has more power now, and why Andrew Berry is back, but I digress:

I boldly predict that DePoBerry will be "aggressive", as promised:

1: (hat tip to Elliott Kennell here) they will at least try to get a 2021 2nd round draft pick out of the Jagwires to take Nick Foles and his 18 mil salary off their hands, and then to get a 2020 2nd rounder from da Bearss, the Colts, or somebody else for Foles at 8 mil (ie the Browns pay half his salary).

This is what DePoBerry (nominally Sashi Brown) tried to do with Brock Osweiler, but nobody wanted to trade for Osweiler, so they got stuck with him for one season, and only got a low 2nd round pick out of the deal (not sure what they did with it).

2: BS aside, OBJ is on the block.  Sadly, this is an awesome WR draft class, which should undermine OBJ's value, but there are still lots of Dorseyan foodball guyzz out there, so I still think some dumbass body will cough up a first round pick (or more) for him.

3: The Browns will sign at least one elite Free Safety (long-term) in free agency, and one starting calibre Offensive Tackle (maybe a cheap one year bandaid) ahead of the draft.

...and some cornerbacks and Defensive linemen and like everything else, but in general young and ascending players (like Nassib and Ogbah...see?)

4: The Browns will indeed trade down from 10---maybe a LOT, or more than once.

4a: They'll take some 2021 and even 2022 picks as part of this (1 or 2 rounds higher, naturally).

4b: They'll get a starting Left Tackle, no matter what.

*Let's not ignore the first round pick some dumbass team will cough up for OBJ here.  The Browns could land TWO stud OTs, or a lethal WR, or EDGE guy, or whatever with their OBJ pick*

5: The Browns will nail down an excellent veteran backup QB (of some sort; I like Keenum best).

6: Baker Mayfield will resume being Baker Mayfield.  DUH.  Stefanski's offense might make him better!  Kirk Cousins vs Baker Mayfield...?

7: Rodney Njokufield will kick ass majorly (and BLOCK well too).

...okbye.
