Myles the Monster, Scott Peters YES, Analyitics and Common Sense 102

First, outside of Cleveland, just about everybody agrees that Myles Garrett is a liar, and only fabricated the allegation that Mason Rudolph made a racist comment to excuse his unforgivable actions.

I get this a little bit, as accusations like this are typical nearly every time a black person gets in trouble, and it is usually BS, but Garrett aint that guy.

He first made the allegation behind closed doors in the confidential hearing, and some scumbag leaked it.  Now, it won't go away:

Somebody asked Garrett about it.  If he says "no comment", it will be interpreted as an admission that he was lying.  So he said yes, he stands by what he said.

As you know, I found it tough to believe that a guy used to minority teammates and freinds would spew that garbage, and felt that Garrett heard him wrong...

But after watching the tape a few more times, and looking at those still shots of Rudolph's face...man--Rudolph was out of his damn mind!  Look at those eyes!  You ever see anything like that outside a horror movie?

So maybe a word or two slipped out.  At any rate, Myles Garrett isn't a cowardly unscrupulous liar like most of the minority people who lie about what their adversaries said.

One article by a Steelers writer was entitled "Did We Expect Anything Different from Myles Garrett?"

I don't need to read it.  It will list all the flags he, like all passrushers, drew for late hits, helmet-to-helmets, etc---most of which were bullcrap.

I'm not sure how the writer gets to not expecting anything different in re the accusation.  Makes it sound like Garrett routinely says stuff like that or something...I need to see if that pile of crap was written by somebody named "Schiff".

Anyway I got Garrett's back.  He's used up his "get out of jail free" card for what he did (could have been tragic), and he needs to drop the helmet on the ground next time, and not even retaliate (much), no matter how the relentless psychopath in his face chases him all over the field or what he says.  I mean even just turn around and walk away.

That's the frustrating part here: Garrett already knows that.  But so did I, when I was a kid.  And that gets sooo hard to do (and I didn't either).

And I believe Myles, and not the psycho who probably can't remember the incident anyway because it was a psychotic break in the first place.

Apparently, "Did not!" is an absolute defense in Pittsburgh.

I am thrilled that Scott Peters was hired to help Callahan coach the Offensive Line!  He played there for a long time in the NFL, but is also an accomplished MMA trainer.

So much of trench warfare is about hand-placement, leverage, balance; there's a LOT of overlap between Scott's first and second carreers, and some of us can see it.

Peters can look at films along with his individual linemen and say "when he's coming, and does this, you do this".  It could be slapping a guy's elbow inside, instead of trying to keep the arm and hand outside.

Callahan (*unlike Campen*) is at least a top 3-5 Oline coach, but his real duties with the 2020 Browns will be diverse.  He'll be installing the wide zone system, helping coach the running backs on it, and no doubt advising Stefanski on Head Coach stuff.

Peters is here mainly to coach up individual blockers (including tight ends, running backs, and fullbacks).

You guys keep yawning about the new assistant Oline coach, but I'm telling you now:  He will make a BIG difference in the performance of each and every offensive lineman (you'll just have to trust me on this one).  AWESOME hire!!!

Grant Puskar answered the preposterous suggestions by some that the Browns should dump Baker Mayfield after his second season in the NFL with reasons why we shouldn't be selling his stock.

You few people won't read anything new here, but when I see a new guy with brains I can't help citing him.

Grant's reason 5: Baker broke the rookie TD record.  I just need to add that Baker did this without OBJ.

Grant's 4th reason is that Mayfield has great weapons.  Grant assumes that OBJ will be one of those, which (as my regulars know) is unlikely.

But he'll still have the weapons he'll need.  Grant mentioned here Van Pelt and Stefanski, who I agree will help Baker out.

3: He's still who they drafted.  Amen.  There is no freaking way that 2018 put a dent in Baker Mayfield's confidence.  He is a fighter, and a winner.

Trade OBJ and he'll be fine (that was me-not Grant).

2: The Offensive Line will be upgraded.  He will have more time to throw.

I concur, but need to add here that the Oline coaching has been significantly upgraded, and that and the new scheme has as much to do with that as the offensive linemen they will draft or sign.

Grant's top reason is his 3rd reason:  Baker Mayfield is who he is.  No offense, Grant.  I still do that myself.

Dudukovich (lost the link) hypothesized a 3-way trade between the Browns, Jagwires, and Bearss for Nick Foles.  It made tons of sense!

Gardner Minshew kicked ass and Foles fell on his face.  Minshew is on his dirt cheap rookie contract and Foles is a 16 mil cap hit (32 mil or so dead money in 2020 if released).

Remember when DePodesta, Berry etc "rescued" the Texans from Brock Osweiler's massive contract?  Dudokovich sure did (fist-bump, dude! It never occurred to me!)

Per Nick, the Browns sorta offer the Jagwires 16+ mil in 2020 cap space, plus erase a 32+mil dead cap hit, and in exchange only ask for their 2021 second round draft pick such a DEAL!

No, the Browns don't eat Nick Foles and his salary: Part 2 of Dudukovich's deal is the Browns paying half of Foles' 2020 salary and giving him to the Bearss (or Colts--my own idea) for their 2020 second round pick.

As Nick points out, the Browns tried to peddle Osweiler like this, but nobody wanted him.  Nick Foles won a Superbowl, and is a whole different story; the whole deal could be engineered in advance.

The Browns blow less than 9 mil in 2020 cap space and get 2 second round picks for it.

The proceeds of the Osweiler deal?  Nick Chubb.

And none of these articles consider the 36 mil or so in cap space the Browns will add by dumping Vernon and Hubbard, and trading OBJ.

One article I read suggested that Lord Insideous in New England might trade his first round pick for Beckham in an effort lure Tom Brady back.

That makes sense, sorta.

I still believe that Bill intended to replace Saint Thomas with Jimmy G (and trade Brady for MASSIVE compensation) 3 years ago, but was thwarted by Pats owner Robert Kraft.

I don't believe that Lord Insideous, who we remember as the guy who dumped Bernie Kosar for "diminished skills", is as fixated as the rest of you on making sure Tom Brady comes back.

I know that Bill is a geezer, and would prefer to keep Tom Brady, but don't think he'd cough up his 1st round pick and that much cap space for a player that's injured all the time in an effort to retain a QB with diminished skills.

Bill Belichick is old, but also driven.  He is like Baker Mayfield.  He can't get over or forget that Robert Kraft cost him a bunch of premium draft picks (and Garropolo).

Do any of you comprehend this?  3 years ago, Bill Belichick could have cashed Tom Brady (the "GOAT") in for multiple first and second round picks, going forward 2-3 seasons---and extended Garropolo inexpensively.

Brady brown-noser Kraft nixed this (get up off Haslam btw) and I compare what happened next to "helmetgate":

Belichick was out of his mind.  I've been there a LOT.  Your boss won't listen to you.  Your whole history with them carries no weight.  They won't listen to reason.

Bill spazzed out, and dealt Jimmy G to the Niners without even talking to the Browns, because he was temporarily insane: His "inner child" wanted to get the idiocy over with/stick it to Kraft, and for once he acted on impulse.

(I'm glad, since I like Mayfield better.)

  • Anyway, Bill Belichick didn't have a helmet in his hand, but it was similar:  Bill Belichick and Myles Garrett were driven insane by insanity.

Is any of this sinking in?

Things are looking up for the Browns.  The Ravens will remain scary as hell, but the Steelers are fading, and the Bengals are under construction.

Listen to me:

Trading OBJ and releasing Hubbard and Vernon will add over 35k to the 2020 salary cap, and add (at least) another middle first round pick.

Within reason, the Browns can retain Schobert and Randall (at least).

Given these trades and releases, the Browns could also add 2 stud safeties, a stud nose tackle for running downs, and more before the draft (and still have over 50k in cap space)

I forgot Case Keenum, by the way.

I'm in "analytics" mode here, so bear with me if you can:

The OBJ trade yields a lower third 1st round pick (and more)...

Nevermind.  You people think Vernon and Beckham are untouchable (and Njoku is a gmf)...I can't even communicate with you.

Nevermind.
