McCoy Mania. Spazzocity. Accepting. Reality. Common Sense 101

McCoy Mania has siezed the NFL, and as I had feared, some team is rumored to have already offered Gerald over 11 million already.

Ndomukong Suh got 9.25 mil, so I guess that's not too outlandish for a guy who's a year younger and a better passrusher, but it's too much for the 2019 Browns to pay a rotational Defensive Tackle.

I've read some thoughtful articles opposing this opinion, and respect them.  McCoy is still an exceptional (and durable) player, a solid citezen and a quiet leader who would be a dramatic upgrade over the current depth guys.

But this is business.  While I guess 11 mil (or really any amount) is technically doable for 2019, DePodesta Dorsey can't pay anywhere in that zip code for 2020 or 2021.

One year deal?  Doubtful.  McCoy is 31.  He can't be entering free agency again next season at 32, and possibly injured.  He wants at least 3 years, and possibly a "no trade" clause too.

How much less would he accept in the second and third seasons?

In reality, you see, McCoy is past his prime, and in decline.  He feels insulted when people say things like that, but he shouldn't.

I kinda doubt that the Browns and McCoy will find a middle.  Some fools will pay him 30 mil instead of the 23 or so I have in mind, and if they are contenders, Gerald will take it.

Fortunately, Gurzi is planning ahead, as his latest list of 3 are Veteran Free Agents he thinks the Browns should sign after OTAs.

His first player is Guard Brandon Fusco, who has 87 NFL starts; most recently with the 2017 Vikings and 2018 Falcons.

Randy was looking for additional Austin Corbett insurance, and this guy should be a dirt-cheap one year rental.

Randy likes DT Caraun Reid (assuming McCoy isn't signed).  Gurzi isn't all gaga over the guy, but thinks he would push the current backups hard, as he showed flashes of passrush ability with the Cowboys.

And considering the depth on that Cowboys 1+team, this guy might be undervalued.  ?

Eric Berry?  Randy stipulates his injuries (most recently an achilles), and correctly calls this a dice-roll move.

I'm not sure about this one.  You guys should recall that I wanted Berry (and Boston) myself early in the offseason, but that was before Burnett, Murray, Hassel, and Redwine...and a couple new corners with safety potential.

Randy? We're past the dice-rolling stage here.  We're in the retaining and developing young talent phase now...yes, even at Safety.

Andrew Gribble's Mailbag was interesting this week, as somebody asked Andrew about Rodney Hasselfield, the undrafted 200 lb "linebacker" Dorsey signed recently.

My regulars grok that Hassel is a Safety and possible cornerback in the NFL, plus a Special Teams ace.  Andrew frustrates me at times, as he was very general in his response to this question, and the prospect of Hassel playing Cornerback never occurred to him.

Andrew has to be part PR-man to have his job, so I'm not picking on him, but I can answer some of the questions he fielded more directly:

Jermaine Whitehead standing out: How do you see the secondary shaking out?

Whitehead is obviously in this mix, along with (deep breath) Ward, Randall, Greedy Williams, Mitchell, Burnett, Redwine, Tj Carrie, P Gaines, Murray...that's TEN, right?

Ok Hassel makes 11.  Jhavonte Dean makes 12.  MY regulars know about these two guys, but anybody who is new should just know that both players are smart and athletic, and can play any back end position, especially for Steve Wilks.

Gribble generalizes, and resorts to who will play special teams, to answer this question.

New Special Teams Coach Mike Preifer just explained that Freddie Kitchens gave him access to the whole roster for his Special Teams.

Hue Jackson did not.  Hue wouldn't let his Special Teams coach have any of his starters.  (I'm not bashing Hue for this, because I might have done the same thing...for obvious, perfectly logical, reasons).

*Sorry you guys for not dog-piling on Hue Jackson like the rest of you*

Anyhoo, Preifer can use everybody, so his special teams units will be significantly upgraded.

The Jackson logic is that Special Teams players are exposed to injury, and get fatigued.  You people need to respect this.

Hue Jackson does not need to burn in hell for eternity, and was not the dumbest person ever born, but clearly, Preifer need not be a genius to massively upgrade the Browns' Special Teams.

Amos Jones had a terrible record before he came here and compounded it, but I wonder if he hasn't been screwed all along by Head Coaches who restricted the talent he had to work with.

I have personally been screwed sideways (with a french twist) wrongly due to politics and ignorance, so I'm not like most of you people.

I'm not so sure that Amos Jones is the dumbass I've called him.  Preifer will obviously make him look like shit, but then Jones couldn't use many of the players Preifer could.

Be FAIR!  THINK!

Jeez you people, you're so vicious!  I remember you people calling Bill Belichick an idiot.  Tim Couch a bust.  Do you people ever listen to yourselves? (rhetorical question) (zinnggg!)

I'm happy to inform you that most other teams' fans are worse than Browns' fans, and that Browns fans, in general, are among the smartest in the NFL.

It's a close call, of course.  I mean, I have to walk on eggshells with most other alleged Browns fans even more than with Steeler/Ravens/Bengals fans.

...but IMONHP,  Cleveland Browns fans are marginally more rational than all the other AFC North fans...

Substantially because Mayfield is the real deal, and the 2019 Browns are the most talented team in the...

The hell with it.  I'll paraphrase one guy who commented on one of my posts:

"This is garbage.  I have never read anything this bad (etc)."

This is why I don't post comments.  I can't even TALK to some of these people!  Nothing I say registers with them, and I'm not allowed to point out the irrefutable fact that they are idiots...

Anyway you guys?

You're welcom.
