I won't inflict the link on you, as I am dumber for having read the article in question, but some low-grade mow ron bashed Joe Thomas for having predicted that the Browns would go 5-1 in the AFC North in 2019.
The ass-clown didn't mention that Joe's overall prediction was 10-6, and he predicted that the Buffalo Bills would account for one of the losses.
This cretin didn't bother with comparative talent, or anything else so superficial. He trotted out history!
The Browns have a horrible record vs the AFC North, ergo it is impossible for the 2019 iteration to go 5-1 in the Division.
As you know, this is a pet peeve of mine: anybody with a brain understands that in today's NFL, history dating back more than one or two seasons is utterly irrelevant, as rosters and coaches change so often.
2018 was the only relevant year for the Browns, as the same brand new quarterback is returning, along with most of the other young studs...and this ass-hat brushes that season off as if it was a fluke!
I remind you: This guy is allowed to VOTE. ARM UP!!!
-Snicker-snort- Joe Thomas---what a homer! Sweep the Ravens and the Bengals!?! What's he smoking? Why look at this the last time the Cleveland Browns even had a...well except for last season...
Idiot.
Actually, I am bugged by the fact that Big Joe thinks the Buffalo Bills will beat the Browns. I get elite teams and the 'Niners (who will be very scary in 2019), but...well I think Joe is trying extra-hard to prove he isn't a homer, because the 2019 Browns ought to stomp a mud-hole in the 2019 Bills, and for that matter are better than the Niners too.
Josh Edwards tries hard to ferret out areas of concern for the 2019 Browns, and as usual (of late) does a nice job.
Of course, Josh isn't perfect. Fortunately, you have me:
Josh cited "team" depth:
1: We can take RB, WR, TE, OL, S, and CB off that table right now. If you think the Browns need even more depth at any of these positions, you need a brain-transplant.
2: Josh (probably a regular reader of this Blog...dammit) gets that Avery and Takitaki are edge-rushers who can fill in for the DE's situationally, but he doesn't give either credit for actually being good full-spectrum linebackers.
And they are. The Browns have all the EDGE players they need, and plenty of linebackers!
Another good actual Defensive Tackle would come in real handy, even if Steve Wilks is cool with Thomas and Smith helping spell them on passing downs.
The veteran Offensive Linemen John Dorsey signed are NOT jokes, nor is Rodney Harrisonfield, so this Offensive Line is ready for injuries.
I give Josh an A- for this article. It was really good, except it kinda dissed Takitaki and Avery.
Speaking of which, the Browns 2020 free agents should make us all nervous (already) due to the salaries Garrett, Mayfield, Njoku, Ward etc will command.
John Dorsey has to be prepared to lose most of the players listed; notably Randall, Robinson, and Schobert.
That's exactly why rumors of a Schobert trade were floated prior to the 2019 draft.
The 2019 draft included Redwine and two linebackers. That's not a cooincidence.
I'm glad to see John Dorsey planning ahead, and at least trying to build a "pipeline" of young players who can replace unavoidable cap-casualties.
Seriously, in the 2020 draft, the Browns will be stuck in the bottom third of each round (and ideally will for the forseeable future).
No Mayfields or Garretts for them.
I still have hope that a Johnson and/or Schobert trade (Dorsey and Kitchens denials are a joke) will get them a couple more mid-round picks, or perhaps a viable (young) rotational DT or something.
Schobert and Duke are expendable right now. Randall and (I think) Williams are not.
Dorsey (his BS aside) is hoping to get something out of assets he will have to let go anyway. If he isn't already, Paul (ahem) DePodesta is here to make sure he will.
That aside, J P Scott addresses the wierd new doubts about the 2019 Browns.
Actually you shouldn't bother with the link, as J P says what I've been saying for awhile:
This 2019 Browns team has almost NOTHING to do with even the 2017 Browns--let alone earlier rosters.
Almost every single Coach has been replaced. The GM is new. At long last, they finally have a Franchise Quarterback (hint: this matters, okayyy?)
Critical thinking is easy, once you learn to step outside of yourself. Seriously, you people:
Imagine being a different person, and looking at and listening to yourself as that other person would...
Well, Rome wasn't built in a day. Start with that. When you start realizing how ignorant and narrow-minded you are, you'll be ready for step two.
But right now, all you need to know is that J P and I are correct: You SHOULD feel optimistic about the 2019 Browns.
Not that you should (as usual) set the "bar" up there in the stratosphere!
A playoff victory works. Most of you people watch too many movies and have not personally experienced any of what you're blabbering about.
Do the 2018 Rams suck? The 2018 Saints? Get a GRIP!
I worry about that. Most of the permabashers are just sniping for now (they just can't shut up), but if the Browns don't at least reach the AFC Championship, they'll be out in force.
Fire Kitchens (or somebody)! This/that/whatever should have been done like this or that instead!
Idiocracy.
Indeed, Vince Lombardi was a genius, but he deliberately said irrational stuff to motivate his players. Most of his players knew it was propaganda, but strove to live up to it anyway.
They LOVED Vince Lombardi, who was actually a great PERSON. A leader of men, much more than a great tactician (his offenses were rather simple, in reality).
It disgusts me when these clowns in their undies in mom's basement who never had a fight in their lives bash Head Coaches and players and teams for well...not winning it ALL.
Yeah, I was an IntelligenT Analyst, but I was also an athlete (sorta), and view most of these PJ Permabashers with contempt.
I'm sick of it. Bashing Earnest Byner for "the fumble". Calling Schottenheimer an idiot for his playoff losses, as if his amazing win/loss record was irrelevant.
Belichick was incompent. Modell was an asshole--remember that? For cryin out loud Grossi goes back every year like it's a parole-hearing to make sure Uncle Arty doesn't get into the Hall of Fame!
IDIOCRACY!
The hell with it okbye
