Todd McShay has the Browns drafting Sam Darnold and LaQuon Barkley first and fourth, and I like that fine.
I do prefer Baker Mayfield, but Darnold is still kinda learning the position, and is undeniably bigger and taller. He can't match Mayfield's supreme accuracy, but he's okay in that dept.
And I'm a huge Barkley fan.
But wtf is this drafting tight ends, wide receivers, and linebackers stuff in the second round? Holy crap has this guy just decided that EVERYBODY Sashi Brown drafted or signed needs to be replaced?
Honestly, I can't comprehend this! Dorsey will draft a tight end because Njoku (and DeValve) need to be replaced...already?
Brilliant! Draft a tight end before a free safety, cornerback, left tackle, or edge-rusher!
Wide receiver is a little different, since Josh Gordon is not only a risk, but is also entering his final contract year. And as it stands, it's him, Coleman (injury concerns), and just "solid" guys behind them. Dorsey will be on the lookout for wide receivers. I've come around to that.
But not a slot guy. Duke Johnson can play the slot, and will, a lot, because he won't be the primary running back, and Haley will want him on the field as much as possible. Coleman is also a weapon from the slot. Any receiver drafted should be a bigger, taller outside guy.
The Browns need an edge-rusher opposite Garrett, since Ogbah is a bust, right? I don't mind getting another one for depth, or even a situational upgrade, but I'm sick of ignorant people dissing Ogbah like that.
Linebacker!? Kirksey Schobert Collins (and yes Burgess too) and we need to start replacing them now?
Yeah get all those guys first, then grab Joe Thomas's protege in the third or fourth round, along with your new cornerback (note: make sure he's a shrimp).
So, is McShay a dumbass? My kneejerk answer is yes. However, he might just be bored and disinterested by bad teams, and doesn't bother doing any homework whatsoever on them.
I've done that myself sometimes when I write about other teams.
I guess I'll just give him an "Incomplete" for now, and wait to see if he gets head-extraction surgery later in the offseason.
