While pundits listing wide receiver as among the Browns needs is preposterous, there will be one available to them in 2017 who is too good to pass up.
He is a big, tall, fast guy who has already set several NFL records, and he's only 25 years old.
His name is Josh Gordon.
Oh, I just saw the eye-rolls and hands in the air, but try thinking with your brain this time.
There is zero evidence that he failed another drug test, and that there is some conspiracy to cover it up. What has been reported was that a paternity test identified him as a father, and his entry into rehab was what he said it was.
Hell, his "crime" in the first place was smoking some weed big fkng deal. Then getting some second hand smoke. Then having a couple drinks on a plane like the other players after the season was over! Why don't the rest of you see how rediculous this is?
Crap he's neck deep in LaCanfora now! Clowns are blabbering about cocaine and addiction and a ruined life and stuff! "Marijuana: Destroyer of Youth" wow. Just...wow.
And why not just keep him? He's under contract and dirt cheap. Can you imagine Gordon, Pryor, and Coleman in the slot? Do you want to help your quarterback succeed or not?
What, it sends the wrong message? That if you're an all-pro player you can come back after serving your suspensions? Oh how horrible! Grumble grumble "Bet they'd cut me" grumble grumble "Yeah! Cuz you suck!"
No doubt he'd be luring other players to opium dens after practice and stuff! Addicting them to the heathen devil weed and feeding their habit in the locker room. Jeez what planet did you grow up on? What century, for that matter?
My only concern with Josh in training camp was how fat he'd become. He didn't have a great work ethic, clearly. It's alright though: Hans and Franz can take care of that, and he knows he'd done if he doesn't toe that line.
And maybe he WILL screw it up for the last time, and if so, so be it. We lose the lowest guy on the practice squad oh, the humanity!
Bringing Josh Gordon back one last time is a zero risk, astronomical reward proposition. The analytics guys will try to listen to the old ladies talking about messages and esoteric crap like that, but they can't. It's not rational.
For Sashi and Paul, it's just plain "why not?"
Risk: zero. Cost: zero. Reward: WOW.
And what if they do the prim, proper, PC thing and cut him loose? You'd love that, wouldn't you? Belichick or somebody picks him up for the league minimum and he catches a hundred passes for two thousand yards.
NOW you get to call Sashi an idiot and call for his head!
So you see, they have to bring Josh Gordon back! And you know what? If they don't, that would be idiotic! The time for them to terminate his contract was when he made his announcement about rehab. They just said they were done with him so they weren't asked about him every week for over a year, and to keep LaCanfora from inventing some kind of internal power struggle and Haslam meddling over him.
Get this straight: Josh Gordon is not a criminal, or even a jerk. He's a good teammate, and a good person. He's done some truly stupid things, but that's no reason to kick him to the curb now.
He's "done his time" for a bunch of chickenshit. He's "paid his debt" (what a joke).
Come back in shape, Josh. Earn a big contract. Take care of that munchkin. I'll see you at camp.
