Dan sifts through comments by the players themselves prior to and after the Haslams made their decision, and found no strong support among them.
Naturally, this was brought into focus after OBJ's recent assertions that some of his current defensive teammates told him that Williams told them to "take" OBJ "out"...in a preseason game.
Dan didn't mention this, but none of OBJ's teammates defended Williams (tepid PC evasive responses aside).
Dan noticed most of this, and (of course) the "Bountygate" scandal (which was triggered by players "snitching" Williams out to the League...with recordings).
You will recall that I was convinced that Williams had promoted this culture, even if he didn't personally offer any "bounties", and was disgusted.
But a few years later, I was thrilled when the Browns hired Gregg Williams, because he was pretty good, and I assumed he had learned his lesson.
You people need to understand that in today's unionized NFL, 98% of the players consider all other players their brothers, and are repelled by the idea of deliberately injuring eachother.
Dan (I think correctly) infers that Gregg Williams never "had" the team:
OBJ is an obnoxious clown, but I know that what he said about Gregg Williams on the eve of this game was calculated, deliberate, and perhaps rehearsed.
He called Gregg Williams (and not the Jets) out. If Gregg is still pushing this crap, his accusations will resonate with those defensive players.
See the response? Where is the (real or fake) "outrage" by the Jets players?
People keep comparing OBJ to Antonio Brown, but OBJ is a massively better human being, and maybe smarter too.
Locker room material? Chuh! OBJ just put the referees on alert, and under the microscope for this Monday Night Football game.
Like I said: OBJ said what he said on purpose, and maybe with the Front Office's implicit support.
Unintended consequences could mean excessive zebra interference with both teams, and of course the game can still be fixed by the referees, as some (or many) are.
No, G: I'm not wrong. I was trained to look for patterns, and think with my brain. I've also gambled a lot. NFL referees fix games.
Sorry all my evidence is circumstantial, but it is overwhelming.
You don't want to believe it...but I digress:
Gregg Williams' defense should at least be on it's best behavior, and OBJ's accusations could keep Baker Mayfield et al out of the hospital.
OBJ has to be getting paid (more than the weekly fines) to wear his stupid watch.
That's innocuous for now, but it's the camel's nose: Other players will copy him, and it could mushroom into insanity (see "Nascar") if the League Office doesn't head it off at the pass.
The simplest way is to increase the weekly fines, and charge the miscreants more than their sponsors are paying them.
As you know, only a couple posts ago I was bashing OBJ over this watch thing, but now, in light of his assertions in re Gregg Williams, I think Odell is just making a little extra money (while maxing out the attention he gets).
It's kinda funny: A watch company sees that the weekly fine for wearing a watch is 5k, so they offer the player 10k. It's almost like free enterprise, right?
The League Office will probably increase the weekly fine to 11k next. And the watch company will probably increase it's bribe to the player.
The NFL can't lose. They can fine players as much as they want. How tf can anybody compare Antonio Brown to OBJ in this context?
But I digress again. I think...
A new writer some genius hired instead of me proclaims that the Browns need to trade 2 first round picks (or whatever) for Redskins stud Left Tackle
I admit that I used to be pretty dumb in general, and idiotic occasionally. I can't even count the letters mailed, statements made etc I wish I could take back.
But I can honestly tell you that I was NEVER as dumb as this writer.
Sigh...despite the referees obviously sticking it to the Browns last week, the homies were very much "in it" until Greg Robinson was ejected from the game.
Kendall Lamm took over, and got injured himself. Hubbard moved from Right to Left Tackle, and Justin McCray replaced him at Right Tackle.
A hand grenade rolled into the foxhole, and the survivors did as well as could be reasonably expected.
Lots of people are overreacting to this debacle, and declaring the Browns 2019 Offensive Line crappy, but this guy...what the hell is wrong with you people? He's your brother or cousin...you owe him money? Compromising photos? Bribery?
Ohhmmm......ohmmmm...
Back in the day, we called guys like this "twitch", or "spazz".
Anyway obviously the 2019 Browns don't have the same Offensive Line as they did in 2018, right?
Well that's because Dorsey traded (maybe the best RG in the NFL) Kevin Zeitler to get OBJ and Olivier Vernon.
Ok so Austin Corbett didn't rise to the occasion, and John Dorsey signed several free agents with starting experience (all of which were very good in pass protection but sucked as run-blockers per PFF etc) for insurance.
Well, I need to research this; I'm just guessing here, but: Are these numbers indicative of how John Dorsey built the Chief's Offensive Line?
...oh I'm sorry. Did you think Andy Reid built the Chiefs?
Typical. Andy had a lot of input, of course, but it was Dorsey who traded up for Mahomes, stuck his neck out for Tyreek Hill, and (I just checked) too many to list.
Andy Reid is a great OC and Head Coach, but giving him credit for every Dorsey draft pick is purely political.
Look at Dorsey's 2 Browns' drafts, and there it is. I assume you get that Hugh Jackson didn't compel Dorsey to draft Baker Mayfield first overall (remember Kessler and Kizer btw?)
You'll have to trust ME on this one: John Dorsey (not Andy Reid) built the Chiefs, just as he has built the Browns (at lightspeed).
I'm just wondering: Between Darnold, Allen, and Mayfield, which did Hugh Jackson really want?
Doesn't matter. Dorsey didn't care.
Anyway you people are clueless last callokbye
