Jim Miller of NFL Radio is an excellent and objective analyst, and I want to make sure nobody construes the following as criticism (let alone "bashing" for crying out loud you snowflakes):
Jim looks at the Browns much-hyped Defensive Line and said he couldn't see "one player who scares me. Myles Garrett is good, but not great. He hasn't proven that yet..."
Jim went on to say Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon were like that: just pretty good.
I respectfully suggest that Jim hasn't alalyzed this fully yet (and again no bashing: Jim has 32 teams to figure out. Rich Gannon was another ex-Quarterback who always started slow with the Browns, but was pretty good by midseason).
Anyway Gregg Williams limited Garrett to only 2 passrush moves in his second season, but he still broke the Browns' season sack record, made the Pro Bowl, and second team All-Pro that year too.
He did this with his 2 moves and despite any significant help from the other DE or anywhere else. Now this offseason, he shaved off 10 lbs., is allowed to make as many moves as he wants, and has Vernon and Richardson to take heat off him.
In re those guys, Jim:
Vernon was an OLB in New York. He's better as a dedicated passrusher; a 3-4 DE.
Richardson isn't Aaron Donald, but he isn't Trevon Coley either.
Both Vernon and Richardon are significant upgrades over the guys they replaced, Jim. The product exceeds the sum of the parts.
I left third year DT Larry Ogunjobi out (as Jim did), but point to him as an emerging talent Jim overlooked.
Per the players and Steve Wilks, Vernon and Garrett will switch sides sometimes.
Jim Miller hasn't recognized the inevitable (*uninjured) future of this defensive line yet, but, like other less fortunate Quarterbacks, he will.
...and he will be scared.
I wish I could be as happy about Sam Darnold's mono as you guys are, but at this point in time, Trevor Siemion is probably an upgrade (dammit).
Well--Siemion's most recent history is unimpressive, but his experience still matters a lot. He doesn't have Darnold's deep arm either.
Well...meh. News that Ebineezer Bell's arm was falling off would have made me much happier.
I don't agree with Bub that Ebineezer will run all over the 2019 Browns Defense behind the 2019 Jets Offensive Line.
Vs the Bills' defense last week, Ebineezer averaged 3.5 YPC and caught zero passes in a one-point struggle.
The Steelers Offensive Line was one of THE best in the NFL (and Big Ben one of the best QBs) the last time he played in the NFL prior to his wildcat strike.
We in Cleveland have noticed how Ebineezer's merely human replacements performed in his absence, and see eerily similar statistics hmmm....
Don't get me wrong: Ebineezer Bell is a terrific talent (as a receiver as well as a running back).
But Big Ben and the Steelers' Offensive Line made him think he was...more...
No: I'm telling you right now that (in addition to others) Nick Chubb is better than Ebineezer Bell. (shh don't tell Nick! We need to delay that Brinks truck as long as possible!)
Too bad Antonio Brown now gets Tom Brady throwing at him, but according to my (filtered) sources, Antonio Brown only thinks he is Randy Moss, and...
Well he has his best shot at a Superbowl in 2019, but is done. His own delusions of godhood are over with, right now. Tom Brady won't stop throwing to Edelman and the other guys.
Antonio Brown will probably catch over 60 passes for over 1,000 yards, and then get kicked to the curb, because he's an undersized geezer who was never fast in the first place, and is washed up.
I personally think AB is despicable, but if his goal was one last shot at a Superbowl ring was his objective, I can't call him a dumbass too.
But Ebineezer Bell? Oh yeah HE is a scumbag AND a dumbass too!
Bub! With the Jets Oline and QB(s) Ebineezer Bell is just a pretty good running back! Sans Big Ben and the Steelers Offensive Line, he is...well, Duke Johnson, except a little bigger.
Sadly, Siemion will exploit Bell as a receiver much better than Darnold did dammit.
Anyway bye for now.
