Paul DePodesta would never allow this, but I have to admit that I couldn't put it past John Dorsey.
Trading Corbett saves a little cap space and opens up a roster spot. Somebody like me noticed this and set a new Olympic record in the conclusion-leap in guessing that Dorsey was going after Gramps Williams, e voila! (PS a bunch more dirty laundry as the big boys raced to report it).
Trading at least a first round draft pick and paying a king's ransom in guaranteed salary to an oft-injured guy crowding 33 years old would be absolutely spastic.
Gun in mouth spastic.
Ok yes, it would instantly upgrade the Browns' offensive line, as Greg Robinson could be relocated (maybe to RT or RG); Williams (once back in football shape) would help the 2019 team a lot (until he gets injured again anyway.
Great move! Now you can re-sign Joe Schobert OR JC Tretter, you don't have a first round draft pick, you have a Left Tackle with one overpaid foot in the retirement home, and...
Why doesn't anybody else see this? You remain a longshot to reach the Superbowl this year, and starting in 2020, you start losing all your best young players, and your highest draft pick is low in the second round!
John Dorsey is a little nuts, but DePodesta should be able to kill this suicidal trade, even on the off chance that Dorsey has attempted it. (Contrary to popular belief, Jimmy Haslam is not mentally impaired).
Good for
"My bad". A swing and a miss, and Dorsey cops to it, rather than keeping the player because he can't admit he was wrong.
Trent Williams is not the answer for the 2019 (let alone future) Cleveland Browns, ok?
They're jam-packed with studly young talent and need to save up cap money to retain as many of these as they can in 2020, 2021, 2022 etc.
That is not really possible, of course: Every team loses good-to-elite veterans annually, and the best ones rely on the draft to replace them.
...is any of this sinking in yet? Do you think trading (at least) a first round pick for Gramps Williams, AND blowing 10 mil or more in cap space is smart for the 2019 Browns?
(sigh) it's NOT, ok? If Trent Williams had a good chance of buying the 2019 Browns a Lombardy Trophy maybe...but he doesn't.
Please, stop soiling yourselves and spazzing out:
Most NFL teams don't have stud Left Tackles, including some perennial top contenders. They cope with it! They (sigh) run, run RPO's, move the pocket, chip, and get the ball out of the Quarterback's hands quickly.
...seriously -snap-snap- are you getting any of this? The 2019 Browns DON'T NEED TRENT WILLIAMS AS MUCH AS THEY NEED THE CAP SPACE AND DRAFT PICKS HE WOULD COST THEM DO YOU UNDERSTAND!?!
And good for
Panic/spazzdom is unattractive. Please stop it. I can't stand looking at you. Trent Williams is a stud but we can't afford him. Making this trade might well guarantee the Browns return to where they just came from.
I can't think of any more ways to make you understand how idiotic and suicidal trading for Trent Williams would be.
...not that it won't happen...
THIS JUST IN: Rumors of an OBJ trade are being denied by Dorsey.
Nah! Dorsey is listening, and that could make a Trent Williams trade not idiotic...if Schneider can be reasonable...
Okbye
