Phil Simms and Adam Schein (among others) ganged up on Baker Mayfield over his spat with Tony Grossi. Baker "needs to grow up".
I have to admit that I mostly agree. You guys know, I've called him "Punky Punkfield" over his campaign against Hue Jackson "nyahh-nyahh-na-nyannnnyahhh" good grief...
This was a little different, and not nearly as bad. It's the pundits who are overreacting here: Certainly Baker needs to think with his brain instead of his emotions, but it's not that big a deal.
Still, Schein and Simms had some great advice for him: Be like Lord Insideous (Belichick). Give short, terse, dismissive answers to dumb questions.
I remember when Bill was the Browns' Head Coach: He'd stare reporters down...then say "Can I get an intelligent question?" and stuff like that.
It's partly why the Cleveland media were bashing him (along with Modell) so relentlessly.
This was good advice for Baker Mayfield. He can't get away with these histrionics while he's throwing more interceptions than touchdowns and ranks among the worst Quarterbacks in the NFL.
Lord Insideous learned diplomacy/tolerance. Mayfield has to do likewise. And this "I gotta be me and if you don't like it too bad" bullshit is exactly that.
My peeps know: That was me. I'm an expert on that. But it's antisocial, counterproductive, and immature.
Baker: You seem ignorant and arrogant. "Too bad"? ...and (did I mention) immature. You can't be rude and insulting and antisocial and then say "if I offended anybody, too bad"!
Jeez Grossi isn't out to "get you"! He said some negative things about you awhile ago, but these were his honest opinions; it was never personal!
Tony Grossi isn't your enemy!!! JFC give him an exclusive interview like you did with Cowturd (who is your enemy) and you'll see.
Seriously, you people, I'm getting a bead on what makes Baker tick.
He's far from perfect, psychologically. He has mental blind spots. He's overboard on "us vs them". He's intellectually fine, but emotionally stunted in some ways.
It's late. I'll dig deeper into Baker Mayfield's head in future posts.
For now, if the Browns don't beat the Flaccoless Broncos...
I mean JC Nick Chubb has rocked everybody ELSE's world, and is the ideal antidote to that passrush (well...assuming Freddie and not Todd is running the offense).
Simms and Schein kind of ignored the fact that the Browns stifled Sony Michel and company last week. They "can't stop the run".
...because Carson and the Seahawks ran them over a week earli---gdammit nevermind:
Stats get skewed, and anybody (including Phil Simms) who says the Browns "can't stop the run" is mentally impaired. It's like saying the Patriots can't stop the run because one week out of 8 Nick Chubb ran them over.
...ok he didn't do his homework, ok?
Hell, these two spent the first part of their show trying to figure out who would win the Pats/Ravens game...
You know because the Ravens are so awesome and stuff? The Pats toughest test yet?
Well don't get me wrong here: The Ravens are a scary team...but a match for the 2019 Pats?
I assume they expect the Ravens to beat the Browns in the rematch...
More later okbye
