NOW I get it! Nobody else does, but then they're not me. They just steal stuff from me and pretend they thought of it:
Kiper is ranting about all the wide recievers that have been taken while the Browns picked other positions. That's the point, see?
There can be only so many wide recievers on NFL rosters! All these teams will have to make room for all these new guys! A few of these teams are already strong at wide reciever. There will be good wide recievers released from other teams! Do you see it yet?
Some will be young projects they've got to give up on. This is how the Browns picked up the guy I wrote about in my previous blog. Others will be older veterans who make too much money.
AND after the new collective bargaining agreement, teams are using the draft to mitigate their cap. Even teams with decent players are drafting players at those positions, glad to pay these guys much less for three to five years, and more willing to part with the guys who've gotten their second contracts.
Ray is going to scoop up some more veterans to fill the gaps at wide reciever, and it won't cost him much money, either.
It's economics! Supply and demand! The overabundance of wide recievers has pushed other players down in this draft, and Ray has scooped up the best available generally lower than they'd go in a normal draft.
IF IF IF Josh Gordon is suspended, he can't really replace him. Josh really might be the best wide reciever in the NFL. But Ray has a great chance of landing some veteran speed and hands.
Proven guys, with experience, well-prepared for a playoff run right away.
And I don't know how Charles Johnson has progressed, but Ray does, and he aint talkin'. He might come out of this smelling like a rose.
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.
