Yes, Josh Gordon might be suspended for a year, or he might not be. Right now, Drew Rosenhaus is more credible than an unnamed source claiming to have read an email or letter or something. Drew says BS. Stand by on that.
And listen: They were aware of the positive test, but not of the possible suspension? Do you need to read that twice? If you buy that, you're way around the bend.
I don't have to look. I can hear the "ree-row" "Ah say we haing 'em" angry mob with the ropes and torches already, taking this ball and running with it. No Watkins. No reciever in the second or third "and he KNEW Gordon was positive but not that he'd be suspended so he's an idiot same ole Browns" ahhh, shaddap!
The negativity here is just stifling. So is the stupidity.
Anyway, I really wish Ray had taken Matthews, but there are still effective number twos aplenty in the fourth round.
Christian Kirksey is a run-and-hit ILB who completes this defense. No, they don't need a safety. It's done. Whatever they add is for depth.
Iowa fans were all over the NFL.com scouting report, which said he's not a playmaker. He's good in coverage, and will probobly play in nickles and dimes here. It's true that he doesn't have a lot of tackles for losses or sacks, but the Iowa fans want you to know that he wasn't allowed to blitze in that defense.
Nor, obviously, was this his role, as he was used in coverage so much. He was neccessarily off the line at the snap, and it's hard to beat a running back to the line of scrimmage from there duh.
He's fast and all over the place, with a nose for the ball. He needs to be protected from guards, so Dansby will play where Jackson played, and he'll probably put Roberts in a reserve role.
Joel Bitonio, unlike the big lumbering monsters many pundits have been recommending, actually FITS Shanahan's blocking scheme. I have to humbly confess that I was also right about some truly excellent offensive linemen going lower than they should due to a shortage of lead in their pants.
Another ham-handed Bleacher Report analysis might as well have copy/pasted Walter Football's suggestions as to how the team drafting him might use him as a rookie, and I need to correct it.
It's true that Bitonio was a left tackle, and has the skills to play outside in the NFL. His height is adequate, but his arms are pretty short for the outside, and this combined with his lighter weight could make him vulnerable to bull-rushes.
This writer, like many, is also oblivious to Schwartze's intra-season improvement last year, and stuffed Schwartze in a box in game two of last season, where he could ignore the guy's improved play the rest of the way.
He also said that Schwartze would excel at guard here, which demonstrates that he's also oblivious to how a zone scheme works. Schwartze is a mauler, and slow for that scheme. He might excel at guard in a man shceme, but not in this one.
It's far more likely that Bitonio will end up at guard here, where he can pull, trap, and block in space. He shut all the bigshots down not only in college, but at the Senior Bowl, and did so inside as well as outside. He can be a day one starter and is a big upgrade.
As for the Gordon thing, I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, the Browns need a number two, and that's all.
Late BR correction on Kirksey: Please check some other 3-4 teams and see what their ILBs weigh. The weakside guy is not chosen for his ability to take on blockers, Sherlock. He's a starter.
